On Feb. 19, 70 children and 30 adults of the First Baptist Church of Springfield participated in a nationwide community service campaign called Children’s Ministry Day.  The day of ministry is an emphasis led by the Women’s Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Convention to promote the teachings of Jesus to “love our neighbors as we love ourselves.”

The First Baptist Springfield children were given a choice out of 10 different projects that they could participate in to best show the love of God with their neighbors. Projects ranged from delivering muffins and playing games with shut-ins in their homes, visiting nursing homes, handing out Valentine’s on the streets, making care packages for hospital staff and local law enforcement, sweeping off porches and planting flowers for neighbors, working at the local God’s Mission House and leading a canned food drive at the local Harvey’s.
