Missionary to Muslims and author to speak at First Baptist of Rincon

Dr. Raouf Ghattas, retired Southern Baptist missionary to North Africa and the Middle East, and author of “A Christian Guide to the Qur’an,” will be the guest speaker at First Baptist Church of Rincon on Sunday.

A native of Cairo, Egypt, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1975. He was educated at Cairo University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He spent 12 years as a nuclear engineer, and then was pastor of an Arabic Baptist Church in Texas and a church planter and evangelist for the International Mission Board for 20 years.

He lived and served in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Tunisia and Egypt. He also traveled to over 30 countries as a trainer/teacher in Muslim evangelism.

Dr. Ghattas is author, with his wife Carol, of “A Christian Guide to the Qur’an: Building Bridges in Muslim Evangelism” (Kregel, 2009). His book explains the Qur’an from beginning to end, so that Christians may understand Islam and know how to share their faith with Muslims. He is married to the former Carol Brown of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and they have two sons, David, 15, and Nathan, 12.

Dr. Ghattas will take part in the  men’s breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel and will be interviewed by  Pastor Bob Rogers during worship at 9 and 10:30 a.m. He will deliver a seminar on “Witnessing to Muslims” at 4 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel and will speak in evening worship at 6 p.m. Dr. Ghattas will have copies of his book available for purchase.
