As part of the outreach mission of the Rincon Church of God, the church’s C.A.R.E (concern, acceptance, responsibility and encouragement) Board is now an Angel Food Ministries order and distribution site.

This ministry allows anyone, regardless of income, to purchase high-quality groceries at half the cost of retail stores. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Each month, participants can purchase a unit of food (which consists of about 15-17 items) at a cost of $30. Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for about a month. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items.

Participants who purchase a food unit may also purchase specialty boxes — such as steaks, chicken and pork.

There is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere.

Food stamps are also accepted as payment.

Orders for the Angel Food Ministries February menu will be taken through Feb. 4 at the Rincon Church of God. Orders can be placed during regular church office hours, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Payment is due when ordering.

Distribution for February will be held on Feb. 16 at 8 a.m.

Begun in 1994 with 34 families in Monroe, Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the U.S. The ministry has grown to serve hundreds of thousands of families every month across 32 states.

Rincon Church of God — the only Angel Food order and distribution site in the Rincon-Springfield area — is at 3430 Highway 21.
