Coastal Jazz presents David Lugo and Latin Jazz Motion

Born 1962 in New York City, East Harlem — “El Barrio” — David Lugo became one of the most talented and well-respected percussionist in the Latin jazz, salsa and R&B genre. His first performance in the big leagues came at 15 playing congas with legendary percussionist Jose Mangual Jr.

David Lugo served as a facilitator/teacher for veteran musician Johnny Colon and The East Harlem Music School in East Harlem “El Barrio” New York City for more then 10 years while performing and touring the world with the best and world renowned artists in the business such as Hector Lavoe, Ray Barretto, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Jon Faddis, Jorge Dalto, Joe Cuba, Oscar D’Leon, Ismael Miranda, Eddie and Charlie Palmieri, Jaco Pastorius, Dave Valentin, Lalo Rodriguez, Jimmy Sabater, Johnny Pacheco, Carlos “Patato” Valdez, Jose Mangual Jr., Bobby Rodriguez Y La Compañia, Jimmy Bosch and many more.

Currently, David Lugo has his own group called David Lugo and Latin Jazz Motion in which he incorporates all of the jazz flavors unto Latin jazz rhythms. His talented musicians perform many selections of jazz tunes for all to enjoy.

You can often find David Lugo and Latin Jazz Motion performing in Savannah, in clubs like, Jazz’d Tapes, Cha-Bella’s, Il Pasticcio, The Mansion, The Jazz Corner, North Beach Grill at Tybee Island, Savannah Down Under, Club Tropicana and many others.

The concert will be held on Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. at Four Points by Sheraton Historic Savannah, 520 West Bryan St. The concert is free for Coastal Jazz Association members and $10 for non-members. Attendees who join CJA while at the concert will be admitted for free.
