Preparing for Thanksgiving
Cranberry Salad
Cranberry salad recipe

It is Thanksgiving time again. This is the holiday when families gather and good food is shared at the family table. I have selected a few recipes to share today.

The sweet potato filling is an old-timey recipe sure to please. You may choose to use the no-fail meringue on the sweet potato pie. The meringue recipe was given to my Aunt Rebecca by Linda Reiser Rahn. They both made delicious, thick, perfect meringue on their pies. Miss Lula Ford cooked in our high school lunchroom for many years and her favorite congealed raw cranberry salad is a special treat.

Historic Effingham Society is very thankful for a year where we managed to keep the Museum and Living History Site open with budget shortages. We are in a campaign to raise funds to continue to keep the doors open in 2014.  If you can help, please send donations to HES, P.O. Box 999, Springfield, GA 31329.

If you are a business or corporate member, contact our office for information on renewing membership at 754-2170.  We need new members so please consider joining the Historic Effingham Society and support us.

Please pray for our soldiers who are in harm’s way defending this country.  Keep their families who sacrifice so much and our country and its government in your prayers as well. We wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
