The 30th Military Police Company was mobilized for active duty Sept. 16, 1940. This was the National Guard unit at Springfield.

Next week we will review an account of this by one of those who enlisted in December 1949.

The photographs shown are found on pages 144-45 with the captions reversed in “River to River, the History of Effingham County” by Betty F. Renfro. Make a correction to your copy of the book.

This was compiled by Susan Exley of Historic Effingham Society. If you have photos, comments or information to share, contact her at 754-6681 or hesheraldexley@aol.com.
