RINCON — Effingham Heroes Inc. is set to present a country music concert at Freedom Park on Oct. 23.

Marks Wills, a former chart-topping artist, and the Danny Dawson Band will be the performers.

“This event is meant to honor our first responders,” Effingham Heroes President Susie Davis said. “Admission will be free for all Effingham County first responders.”

General admission tickets, available through Eventbrite, cost $20. A few VIP tickets are available for $50. Admission is free for children 6 and under.

“A VIP ticket will get you closest to the stage and a meet-and-greet with the artists,” Davis said.

The Danny Dawson Band, which toured with Waylon Jennings, will kick off the show at 6:30 p.m. It performed at Gov. Brian Kemp’s 2019 inauguration.

In addition, Dawson has opened for national acts Confederate Railroad, Ronnie Milsap, Tanya Tucker, David Allan Coe, Sammy Kershaw, Darin Norwood, Toby Keith,  Aaron Tippin and Faith Hill.

Wills will take the stage at 8 p.m. Sixteen of his single releases reached the top 40 of the country charts, including No. 1s “Wish You Were Here” and “19 Somethin’.”

Davis encouraged attendees to bring lawn chairs and family members. She said food trucks will be on hand to serve the needs of music fans.

Food and beverages won’t be allowed to be taken into the park.

Davis said Effingham Heroes, whose purpose is to show support and foster community respect for first responders, is searching for underwriters for the show. Profits will be used to fund a local Teal House, a refuge for victims of sexual assault and child abuse.
