In less than a week, "Sesame Street" can say it’s owned the block for 45 years.

According to People magazine, the TV show’s first episode ran on Nov. 10, 1969. And though some characters — like Big Bird — have always been on the show, "Sesame Street" has seen a variety of changes since then.

“Cookie Monster now exercises self-control and sometimes eats fruits and vegetables. Millions of kids watch the show on phones and computers instead of TV,” according to People magazine. “And there's less time spent on the street with human characters. They're just not energetic enough for today's viewers.”

But one of the show's consistencies has been the positive messages and themes presented by its characters and guest stars. Here are 10 quotes from "Sesame Street" characters that show how educational, positive and inspiring the show has been for children.

“Life’s like a movie. Write your own ending.” — Kermit the Frog

“Bad days happen to everyone, but when one happens to you, just keep doing your best and never let a bad day make you feel bad about yourself.” — Big Bird

“Until now Mr. Cookie Monster refused to talk about the matter because his mouth was full, and it's not polite to talk with your mouth full.” — Robert McNeil, guest star

“Who care if me eat carrot or collard greens? Me also like broccoli and lettuce and lima beans. Me still Cookie Monster. That not a sham." — Cookie Monster

“This is Sesame Street. A place where people, birds, monsters all live in perfect harmony.” — Phil Donahue, guest star

“ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. It's the most remarkable word I've ever seen. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. I wish I knew exactly what I mean. It starts out like an A word, as anyone can see. But somewhere in the middle, it gets awful "QR" to me. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. If I ever find out just what this word can mean, I'll be the smartest bird the world has ever seen.” — Big Bird

“Sally, you've never seen a street like Sesame Street before. Everything happens here. You're gonna love it!” — Gordon of the Robinson family

“Never refer to me as an item. I'm a bird.” — Big Bird

"Friend something better than chocolate ice cream… Maybe friend somebody you give up last cookie for." —Cookie Monster

“Yeah, well, I’ve got a dream too, but it’s about singing and dancing and making people happy. That’s the kind of dream that gets better the more people to share it with.” — Kermit the Frog
