Brazilian blogger Rafael Del Col lost his wife in 2013 after a car accident.

Now, two years later, Del Col decided to honor his late wife by recreating the portraits they took together with his 4-year-old daughter, BuzzFeed reported.

The photos and the process of putting them together were detailed in this video.

Del Col is far from the first father to create a special collection of photos with his child. In July, I reported on a series of photos taken by a father and son over the last 26 years, except for the last one, in which the father and son take a photo with the sons own child.

Both cases highlight the importance of taking family portraits. Allison Tate of The Huffington Post said family photos are important for children so that they can remember their early childhood and have a visual memory of their parents when they get older.

So when all is said and done, if I can't do it for myself, I want to do it for my kids, Tate wrote. I want to be in the picture, to give them that visual memory of me. I want them to see how much I am here, how my body looks wrapped around them in a hug, how loved they are.
