Wrapped in a blanket with a pillow tucked under her side, Valicia Bess, 47, sipped a glass of blush wine sitting between two of her daughters, Kimberly and Sydney Bess, for her first night out since her Oct. 4 lumpectomy.

Bess, who will begin chemotherapy in the next few weeks, was diagnosed with breast cancer on Aug. 27. She was one of 20 breast cancer survivors and 200 guests who attended the first Light the Night Pink gala at the Quarters on Waterford in Rincon, hosted by Glaze Beauty Boutique and Day Spa.

Held in conjunction with the relocation of La Dee Da and the ribbon cutting for the Loft Café at the Quarters, Glaze owner Paula Duggar said she wanted to do something that would bring the community together with a bit of class.
