Gina N. Farrell, licensed professional counselor, will present to local parents a revolutionary way to create the type of family life they have always wanted in a common sense, principle-based approach to becoming more of a guiding influence and calming authority in their homes.

In 2005, marriage and family therapist and former minister Hal Edward Runkel created this parenting philosophy as a response to parents he encountered in his practice who felt overstretched, overcommitted, underprepared and underappreciated. Soon after, the approach debuted in book form titled “ScreamFree Parenting:  The Revolutionary Approach to Raising Your Kids by Keeping Your Cool.”

Since then, it has been a New York Times best-seller and was number one among the 77,000 parenting titles at Amazon.com.

Runkel has been a guest numerous times on NBC’s Today show, has appeared on the 700 Club, Fox and Friends and NBC’s iVillage Live. His book has been featured in Good Housekeeping magazine and the Washington Post. He hosts ScreamFree Radio every Sunday on WSB radio in Atlanta and has presented the ScreamFree message to churches, schools, businesses and parent organizations nationally and internationally.

Farrell, a certified ScreamFree coach and mother of two, will lead a four-week parenting education group that teaches the principles in the book on Thursdays beginning Oct. 2 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Effingham YMCA in Rincon. Childcare will be available. Parents will enjoy the camaraderie and support of other parents, leading them to feel the assurance that they are not alone in their parenting challenges.

“I guarantee you will learn all you need to know to begin making profound changes in your family after the first night,” said Farrell.

Class size is limited to 20 people. To register call the Effingham YMCA at 826-2199.
