In conjunction with the national Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Initiative, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 14439 from St. Boniface Catholic Church in Springfield helped purchase an ultrasound machine for the Pregnancy Care Center of Rincon.
The machine will serve women of Effingham, Chatham, Bulloch and Bryan counties confidentially and at no cost to the mother.
The St. Boniface council worked with several churches of different denominations, community donors and private citizens all over Savannah and the surrounding area to promote pro-life efforts by raising donations to purchase an ultrasound machine.
The Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Initiative provides medically-certified, pro-life crisis pregnancy centers with the technology to monitor the health of babies in utero and allow mothers to see their pregnancy development, where they may have otherwise considered abortion. Ultrasound exams, which are used throughout a pregnancy for a variety of diagnostic reasons, use high-frequency sound waves to scan a woman’s abdomen, creating a picture of the developing baby in her uterus.
Each ultrasound machine costs tens of thousands of dollars, so many pregnancy care centers would be unable to buy them with support, according to the Knights of Columbus.
The purchase of the ultrasound machine was a combined effort between the local St. Boniface Knights Council No. 14439, the national Knights of Columbus Supreme Council and the Pregnancy Care Center of Rincon. More than $25,000 was raised by the PCC, Knights of Columbus and all donor contributions.
