The American Red Cross announced it will hold “CPR Saturday in Effingham.”

This is a mass training event conducted by the Red Cross for the first time in Effingham County. Hosted by the Effingham County Board of Commissioners, human resources, and parks and recreation departments, the training will be held May 16 at the ECRP gym in Springfield.

“It is important for the residents and businesses of this county to know that the Red Cross is here in your community, ready and available to train and certify in first aid, CPR, water safety, babysitter’s training… the whole line of Red Cross health and safety training products,” said Dan Kurtz, health and safety director in Savannah. “We already train for a number of local based businesses and have had successes with our babysitter training courses in the area. One thing we realize is there are many people who just do not know that we are convenient for training right here in the county, so we decided to offer the discounted Adult CPR Saturday training to help spread the word.”

The cost for the class is normally $30 and will be conducted for $10. The CPR event is being held in two sessions: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. There is limited space available for 50 participants in each session.

“When we do a CPR Saturday event the idea is to fill the sessions. We don’t want cost to be a deterrent,” Kurtz said.  “Keep in mind pre-registration and the pre-pay fee is required. Red Cross makes those tasks simple by calling (912) 651-5371 or logging onto www.savannahredcross.org. Look for the health and safety training tab on the front page, then go to the CPR Saturday registration information.”
