Bragging rights will be on the line this evening at The Corral. So will getting an advantage in fighting for one of the four playoff spots in Region 2-AAAA.

The Effingham County Rebels and South Effingham Mustangs football teams will renew acquaintances and their rivalry tonight when they meet at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest with impressive victories the week before. Effingham picked up its first victory of the season with a 28-6 defeat of Windsor Forest last Friday while at the same time, and not far away, South Effingham beat Beach 25-13 for its third straight win.

Despite the contrast in records this season, the familiarity with each other has bred respect, not contempt, among the two programs.

“Their record doesn’t show it,” Mustangs coach Greg Manior said of the 1-3 Rebels, “but they’ve got a good team.”

The Rebels are 1-3 and are well aware of the roll their adversaries are on right now.

“We know we’ve got our hands full,” Webb said.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. at South Effingham High School. Tickets are $7.
