For 16 years, the American Cancer Society has held its community memorial service for those who lost their battle with cancer.

Its organizers hope there aren’t many more of these services to follow.

Four families were honored, each having lost a loved one to cancer in the past year, as was a current cancer patient during Sunday’s service at the Effingham County Board of Education auditorium.
