Athens to Savannah Ride to include Guyton
Athens to Savannah Ride

GUYTON — The iconic Athens to Savannah Ride will return to Georgia this fall to offer participants the most ambitious ride yet.

“The 2021 route will begin at Jittery Joe’s Coffee Roaster in Athens and take cyclists on a 3-day, 285-mile tour of rural Georgia that leads all the way to River Street in Savannah’s Historic District,” Georgia Hi-Lo Trail Executive Director Mary Charles Howard announced Monday.

Registration is open for the Athens to Savannah Ride, an annual fundraiser serving the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail with a mission to drive economic development through connectivity and empowerment of Georgia’s rural communities. The ride will return October 22-24 and participants can expect some exciting changes, including single-day and virtual-ride options.

“We brought on Sports Strategies to help us grow this event to its full potential, and that will start with getting the route back to Savannah this year,” Howard said.

“Being a Georgia native and a cyclist, I’ve watched this event evolve over two decades, and our team is excited to play a role in growing it to the next level. We are improving the rider experience and increasing the value of event sponsors, as well as participating communities along the route. In fact, I’ll be out on the road in a couple of weeks to do our first route check. I’m looking forward to getting to know these communities better,” said Randy DuTeau, VP of Strategy & Development for Sports Strategies.
