The Rincon Walmart celebrated a grand re-opening Friday morning as five employees who have been with the store since its opening in 1986 — Lillie Smart Brown, Leah Bollinger, Sharon Ulmer, Nancy Mincey and Carolyn Wise — cut the ribbon to mark the occasion.
 
The Walmart Foundation also awarded three grants totaling to $7,500 to Rincon Elementary School, Guyton Elementary School and Effingham County High School, announced by store manager Ricky Smith.
 
The store has approximately 385 associates and has an expanded electronics department along with a new layout, signage and color scheme.

Effingham County commissioners honored local youth athletes Tuesday, recognizing the GRPA state champion softball team and state track meet finalists with a proclamation declaring Aug. 9 as “Effingham Champions Day.”
