Melanie Barton has been hired as vice president — commercial lending at Atlantic Southern Bank.

A 1997 graduate of Georgia Southern University, Barton has over nine years of professional experience in banking and lending.

Effingham County commissioners honored local youth athletes Tuesday, recognizing the GRPA state champion softball team and state track meet finalists with a proclamation declaring Aug. 9 as “Effingham Champions Day.”
