McCurry to discuss ports at Chamber breakfast

The Effingham Chamber of Commerce will host its next Chamber membership breakfast May 3 at 8 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Effingham Career Academy, off Highway 21, next to the Savannah Technical College Effingham campus.

This month’s speaker will be Jamie McCurry, director of administration for the Georgia Ports Authority. McCurry will provide an update on the Savannah harbor deepening project and the next steps as Savannah pushes toward dredging, perhaps as early as 2013. The Georgia Ports Authority and its related shipping business is an enormous economic driver for the Coastal Empire. The post-deepening is expected to spur another increase in business activity for Effingham County and may push even more traffic onto Highway 21 North.

The meeting is open to Chamber members and guests. Cost is $12 for members and $15 for guests. Call the Effingham Chamber to RSVP at 754-3301.
