The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce will hold its Vision Effingham breakfast Nov. 12 at 7:30 a.m.

The breakfast will introduce the citizens and business people of Effingham to the priorities community leaders set forth back in August. The Chamber of Commerce sees the importance of bringing all the entities together to focus on one common goal “Improving Effingham County.”

This is more important now than ever with the increasing growth in the county. The Chamber will now turn this effort over to  a committee of Effingham leaders and citizens to set forth a plan for those priorities and maintain those priorities in the years to come.

Stephen Newsome of Meldrim has agreed to lead this effort and chair the Effingham Vision Committee. Newsome already works with many organizations to increase the quality of life in Effingham County.

He spearheaded efforts to raise over $57,000 for a new playground at Meldrim Memorial Park and has already provided over 3,200 hours of community service during 2009 to seniors and individuals with disabilities in the Meldrim area.

He currently assists the Historic Effingham Society as their Web master and is a lifetime member as well.

“Stephen has a proven dedication to Effingham County and has a wealth of knowledge in the history of this county,” said Stan Sparks, Effingham Chamber Government Affairs chair, “Stephen came highly recommended from several of individuals on our Government Affairs committee, after reviewing his background we felt that he would be the perfect person to spearhead these efforts.”

Newsome said he was honored to be selected as the chair of Vision Effingham.

“I’ve always enjoyed making a difference in the lives of others,” he said. “This is an incredible opportunity to work along with agencies and individuals from across the county to improve the quality of life for all residents of Effingham County.”

Sparks said: “It is the chamber’s mission to preserve the great history of Effingham County and to continue to improve this wonderful place to live.”
The Vision Effingham breakfast will provide the public and chamber members with the opportunity to learn more about this great venture and to get involved with the improvement of Effingham County’s quality of life.

Reservations are $12 for members and $15 for non-members. RSVPs are requested by Monday. Call the Effingham Chamber at 754-3301 or register online at www.EffinghamCounty.com.

The breakfast will be held at the Rincon United Methodist Church’s Family Life Center on Fort Howard Road.
