The Georgia Public Service Commission will begin hearings today on the Georgia Power Company 11th Plant Vogtle construction monitoring (VCM) report in Docket 29849. The hearing will start at 10 a.m. in Room 110 at the Commission offices at 244 Washington St., S.W. Atlanta. Additional hearings are scheduled for Dec. 16 and Jan. 20, 2015.
The PSC will begin by receiving the testimony of any public witnesses. Immediately following public witnesses, the Commission will hear preliminary matters and then conduct a hearing on the direct case of Georgia Power.
The schedule in this docket is as follows:
Nov. 5—Georgia Power presents direct testimony
Nov. 21—Staff and intervenors file direct testimony
Dec. 16—Staff and intervenors present testimony
Jan. 6—Georgia Power files rebuttal testimony
Jan. 20—Georgia Power should it elect presents rebuttal testimony
Jan. 30—All parties file briefs and/or proposed orders
Feb. 19—Commission issues decision at administrative aession
Under Georgia law, within 180 days of the company’s filing of the 11th VCM a progress report, the PSC shall verify and approve or disapprove expenditures made pursuant to the certificate. According to the statute, if the commission fails to so act within 180 days after such filing, the previous expenditures shall be deemed approved by operation of law. The statutory deadline in this docket is Feb. 24. O.C.G.A. § 46-3A-7(b)
