Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler will be a keynote speaker during an employment law and legislative issues update set for Aug. 20 in the Coastal Georgia region.
The event will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Coastal Electric Membership Corporation (EMC), located at 1265 South Coastal Highway 17 in Midway in Liberty County.
The Georgia Department of Labor is teaming with the State Employer Committee to offer a crash course for forward-thinking human resource and business professionals looking for ways to handle management challenges.
The event, the Georgia Business and Employer Summit, will feature a number of guest speakers, including Commissioner Butler; Cherry Rizer, a GDOL employment and training consultant; Jonathan Martin, an employment law expert; and Don Betts of Georgia Tech.
Supervisors, managers, human resource professionals and business owners are encouraged to attend this unique summit designed to help them meet, understand and conquer compliance challenges in the workplace.
Commissioner Butler will provide an update on local, state and federal legislative issues impacting employers and business this year, as well as challenges that could affect them in the next few years. He also will give an update on the Department of Labor in 2013.
Rizer, who is recognized statewide for assisting employers in resolving unemployment insurance issues, will offer advice on best practices in UI claims and appeals representation. Martin, a partner with Constangy, Brooks and Smith LLC, will speak on managing with today’s cultural influences.
Betts will address Employers Like Me – Sustainable Healthcare Innovations, and provide information to help non-health-related employers establish a new organization called Employers Like Me — a peer-to-peer networking group.
Seating will be limited, and pre-registration is encouraged. The cost is $60 per person, and $50 per company for additional attendees. Registration at the door is $75. Attendees can receive 6.0 Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) recertification credits for attending this program.
