Effingham County Board of Commissioners will proclaim Feb. 11 as 2-1-1 Day in Effingham County at their meeting Tuesday.  Myra Lewis, Board of Commissioners chairperson, will sign the proclamation in a ceremony at the Effingham County Administrative Complex.

This proclamation will officially dedicate Feb. 11 as a day of awareness and support of United Way’s 2-1-1 program, a community service that provides one, easy to remember, three-digit number to connect residents with critical health and human services in Effingham County.

United Way’s 2-1-1 has been available to residents of Effingham County since 2001 and connects callers with resources such as food pantries, affordable childcare, health care for the uninsured, government programs, as well as elder-care resources.

Effingham County Board of Commissioners urges citizens and interest groups in Effingham County to observe Feb. 11 with appropriate ceremonies and activities that promote awareness of 2-1-1.

“National 2-1-1 Day” is celebrated on Feb. 11 each year to promote the use of 2-1-1 within the Coastal Empire and for the other 198 million Americans who have access to this service nationwide.
