Arrest made after man robbed motel and tased clerk

One man is behind bars this morning facing several charges after robbing and tasing a motel clerk. Shortly after 4 a.m. Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Microtel Inns & Suites located at 6132 Ga. Hwy 21 South on a report of an armed robbery. The suspect, Michael Pollett, 25, of Rincon, entered the hotel through an unsecured door armed with a large knife and a taser – stun gun. Pollett approached the clerk from behind and applied the taser gun several times to her forehead electrocuting her. He then fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money. 

Sheriff’s Deputies responded and saturated the area. Pollett was located by a deputy in the Westwood Heights neighborhood where he was arrested. Pollett was in possession of a knife, taser, and a large amount of cash at the time of his arrest.

 Pollett has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for non life threatening injuries. Pollett is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
