More arrests could be forthcoming as Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies took into custody two men accused of burglarizing a local school.

Deputies have arrested Kevin Gaddy, 17, of Bloomingdale, and Ryan Norton, 24, in connection with a burglary at Marlow Learning Center where $20,000 worth of music and audio equipment belonging to the International Worship Center was stolen.

Sheriff’s investigators have been following leads and have obtained evidence that links Gaddy and Norton to the crimes. Investigators recovered some of the stolen items from the waters of Abercorn Creek on Monday afternoon. Deputies believe the items were dumped there in the early afternoon that day.

Gaddy was arrested at a residence on Zeigler Road and has been charged with burglary, vandalism to a place of worship, theft by taking, conspiracy to commit a crime, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Norton, who was taken into custody at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, has been charged with burglary, theft by taking, conspiracy to commit a crime, and unlawful use of a communication device, criminal damage to property, vandalism of a place to worship, and illegal dumping.

“We are working to recover the rest of the stolen property,” Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said.

Gaddy and Norton are currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.

“Both suspects are cooperating with investigators and additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming in the near future,” ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor said.
