The Effingham County Sheriff’s office is searching for a Rincon resident on charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment.

Witnesses said they saw James Sapp, 32, drag his wife into a car against her will at the Goshen BP convenience store on July 3. Sapp allegedly then drove away and proceeded down Goshen Road, where his wife escaped and subsequently called law enforcement.

By the time the deputies arrived at the scene, Sapp had fled the area. Officers have been unable to locate him.

“Some attempted to, yes,” Captain Mike Bohannon replied to whether any of the witnesses intervened.

Sapp is a registered sex offender. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Sgt. White or Capt. Bohannon with the sheriff’s office at 754-3449.
