Deputies nab rape suspect

Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a wanted rape suspect in connection with a sexual assault that occurred early Saturday morning on Old Dixie Highway.

Glenn Randall Usher, 44, of Springfield, was taken into custody by deputies at a residence in the 5000 block of Old Dixie Highway after deputies received a tip from a citizen. Usher faces one count of rape and one count of aggravated sodomy.

Additional charges are pending as the investigation is ongoing.

Usher is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
