Early-morning chase ends in arrest

Effingham County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Savannah man after he lead deputies in a high speed pursuit through Effingham County.

An alert patrol deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop Tuesday at approximately 2 a.m. on a vehicle that cut him off and did not have a working tag light. After the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Goshen Road, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

It was discovered that this vehicle was reported stolen out of Chatham County.  

The pursuit ended off Blandford Road in Rincon, where the suspect was apprehended after a foot chase involving Effingham deputies and Rincon officers.

Jeremy Simuel, 28, of Savannah, was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property(auto), fleeing and attempting to elude, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction, DUI, reckless driving and several other traffic charges.

Simuel was taken to the Effingham County Jail.
