Undercover agents posing as potential buyers met with Jeffery Sanders of Rincon at a local convenience store and purchased a large quantity of methamphetamine “ice,” according to authorities. Sanders was taken into custody immediately.
Sanders was on parole for previous drug and weapons charges.
A search warrant for his Waldhour Road home resulted in the recovery of cash, methamphetamine, prescription pills and marijuana.
Sanders girlfriend, Jeanine Cowart was found at the residence and evidence gathered resulted in her arrest.
Charges for the pair include sale of controlled substances and possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances.
Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said he is proud of the working relationship the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has with surrounding communities, and said it is only through the joint efforts of CNT and the ECSO Drug Unit that these operations are able to be conducted to ensure the safety of the citizens of Effingham and Chatham counties.
“Cooperation among area drug enforcement agencies is vital to help eradicate drug sales and activity in our communities,” he said. “It is not only agency cooperation but personal communications that make these operations such a success.”
