Marquise Byrd

A Springfield man and a juvenile were arrested following an armed robbery in Effingham County early Thursday morning.

Marquise Byrd, 21, of Springfield, and a 16-year-old juvenile were charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Byrd was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Shortly after midnight, Effingham County deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery on Forest Drive in Springfield. The victim said two suspects held him at gunpoint, robbed him and forced him to drive to a nearby bank to withdraw additional money.

Sheriff’s deputies located the two suspects at a nearby residence and also recovered a gun they say was used in the robbery.

ECSO investigators believe the armed robbery was an isolated incident and the suspects knew the victim.

Byrd is being held in the Effingham County Jail and the juvenile was taken to the Chatham County Youth Detention Center.
