Charges are mounting against a Savannah man after his arrest by two different law enforcement agencies with warrants from a third.

Bernard Simmons Jr., 20, of a West 54th Street address was served with a warrant for armed robbery by a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police robbery detective at the Chatham County Detention Center. He had been arrested by Pooler Police last week.

He was served Monday with a warrant for theft by receiving by a Metro Downtown Precinct detective when it was determined the car he was driving in the robbery had been stolen.

Pooler Police originally had charged him with theft by receiving, obstruction by fleeing and obstruction by resisting arrest.

Effingham County sheriff’s deputies also have placed a hold on him for charges of obstruction and failure to appear.

SCMPD’s robbery charges stemmed from a Nov. 14 incident when a Savannah man reported four men in a blue Saturn stopped beside him while he was walking in west Savannah. Two men got out, pointed guns at him and robbed him of cash, his driver’s license and cell phone. The robbery was one of several that day in which a car matching that description was used.

He was charged Monday with theft by receiving after investigations revealed the car he was driving was stolen. The car was found parked in the 1000 block of West 35th Street on Nov. 16. It had been reported stolen Oct. 31.

SCMPD violent crimes detectives continue to investigate potential connections to other crimes.
