ECSO warns of scam

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public in reference to people in the area who area scamming area residents.

Over the past several days, residents in the Clyo area have reported that individuals have come to their houses offering to do asphalt work. The victims would pay the individuals who would not complete their work to what it was advertised.

Some victims have lost thousands of dollars in this scam.

Anyone who solicits business in Effingham County door to door must have a business permit and a permit from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office urges all citizens to contact authorities if they see any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods including individuals who are going door to door soliciting.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
