Heidt pleads not guilty

An Effingham County man accused of killing his father and brother in August 2008 has entered a plea of not guilty.

Craig Heidt was arrested last month and charged with two counts of murder for the shooting deaths of his father, noted realtor and developer Philip Heidt, and his brother Carey Heidt, also a realtor. Authorities allege that Craig Heidt shot and killed his father and brother in his father's home on  Springfield-Egypt Road and also badly wounded his mother in the incident.

Craig Heidt was arraigned Thursday afternoon in Effingham County Superior Court and entered his plea. He was represented by public defender Jack Williamson. Ogeechee Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney Michael Muldrew represented the state in the arraignment, where Craig Heidt was notified of the charges against him.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
