Juvenile steals vehicle, crashes head-on into deputy’s patrol car

EFFINGHAM COUNTY -- An Effingham County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a head-on collision, after a high-speed chase.

Around 7:30 a.m. April 30, a 16-year-old stole a vehicle from a home on Zittrouer Road and led deputies on a high-speed chase.

As the chase continued, the juvenile went through the roundabout at Highway 17 and Blue Jay Road and collided head-on into an sheriff deputy sergeant’s patrol car.

The sergeant sustained minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital, treated, then later released.

The juvenile was taken to the Youth Detention Center and is being charged with aggravated assault a on law enforcement officer, theft, fleeing, reckless driving, and speeding.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
