Laundry machine thieves busted

Effingham County Sheriff’s investigators have arrested 19-year-old Michael Gibson and 19-year-old Jeffrey Burns of Screven County in connection with the theft of more than $1,000 taken from a coin machine at a Rincon laundromat in October.

A viewer saw Gibson on the news and advised law enforcement. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Sylvania Police Department and the Screven County Sheriff’s Office in capturing Gibson.

Both Burns and Gibson were caught on video breaking into the machine. They spent nearly 45 minutes using a hammer to gain access to money.

Gibson has been charged with burglary and criminal damage to property in the second degree. Gibson is being held in the Screven County Jail where he is facing burglary charges in an unrelated incident.

Burns is charged with burglary and criminal damage to property in the second degree. He is currently in the Screven County Jail being held on unrelated burglary charges.

 

Father, Son Arrested After Armed Standoff in Eden

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
