A Bloomingdale man accused of causing a June 2014 accident that killed a 4-year-old boy has asked for a bench trial in his case.

If convicted, Waugh faces a maximum of 60 years in prison.

Waugh is accused of driving a Jeep Liberty that crossed the center line on Highway 17 and struck a car driven by Adrianna Flowers. Flowers’ son Owen Rivers, 4, was killed in the crash. Flowers broke her right and left femurs and her right knee.

Waugh also was injured in the accident and was flown to Memorial University Health Center. He was arrested Nov. 12, 2014, and a grand jury indicted him in January 2015.
