A roadside traffic safety check was held on Highway 21 just inside the north Rincon city limits last Friday night. The safety check was performed by the Rincon Police Department, along with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department and the Newington Police Department.

The safety check, performed by the Southeastern Traffic Network Team, resulted in the following arrests: one for no tag; one for DUI; three for expired tags; one for a child safety seat violation; one for seatbelt violation; one for window tint violation; one for tag light violation, one for suspended registration; and two for open containers while in a motor vehicle.

Rincon Police Chief Mike Bohannon said there will be other safety checks in the coming weeks. He also said there will be additional holiday patrols in the business areas of the city.
