A set of human remains found off Rahn Station Road have been identified as those of a Savannah car salesman believed to have been killed five years ago.
Dental records and assistance from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the remains were those of Christopher Mooney, who was reported missing in 2011. Anthony Ingram is serving a 20-year sentence in Mooney’s disappearance and presumed death. He pled guilty in Chatham County Superior Court on Dec. 6, 2013.
Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said he hoped the remains would help deputies solve one of their two missing persons cases.
“We were hoping it was one of ours we still have missing. One of them was my case,” he said, referring to Allyson Romedy’s disappearance. “But we were able to give some closure to a family that has been wondering what happened to their loved one. I hate that we had to find them this way but we were able to give them some bit of closure.”
Ingram could face charges for dumping Mooney’s body in Effingham County. He possibly could be charged with concealing a death but McDuffie said proving the murder took place in Effingham will be difficult.
“It would be hard to prove any of this happened in this county,” he said. “There are a lot of different little things he could be charged with. We’re working with the DA’s office what charges, if any, we need to go forward with. We’ve still got a few steps we’ve got to through first.”
Mooney’s remains have been sent to a forensic anthropologist in Texas for further examination.
