Rincon Police officers arrested a man wanted for auto theft who led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase Sunday night.

According to Rincon Police Chief Phillip Scholl, Rincon officers, with help from the Pooler Police Department, arrested Juston Hulett, 27, Monday morning near a Pooler hotel.

Rincon Police have accused Hulett of stealing a car from a Rincon residence Sunday night. He was later stopped for speeding by Port Wentworth Police.

“That’s when the chase began,” Chief Scholl said.

Hulett eventually made his way to the Pooler Walmart parking lot and evaded capture. But Rincon detectives, on advice from patrol officers that Hulett may be the one they were seeking, recognized him from video surveillance at the store.

“Our guys went down to the Walmart, looked at the picture and said, ‘that’s him,’” Scholl said. “They knew who he was.”

Hulett was arrested last week for attempting to flee on foot from Rincon police officers, Scholl said.

Hulett has been charged with auto theft, criminal trespass and loitering and prowling. He was booked into the Effingham County Jail and other charges are pending.
