A registered sex offender was arrested Wednesday during a prostitution sting in Springfield, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Brian Clifton, 42, of Guyton, was arrested by sheriff’s investigators and Springfield Police at a gas station in Springfield. Clifton is charged with solicitation of prostitution and unlawful use of a communication device.

Clifton is a convicted sex offender and is on probation for child molestation. He is being held in the Effingham County Jail.

The arrest stemmed from an ongoing investigation conducted by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.
