Effingham County Sheriff's Office investigators are calling a shooting in Eden that left two people dead a murder-suicide.

Autopsies on Irene Wiggins and Robbie Wiggins were conducted Tuesday morning at the GBI state crime lab in Savannah. The investigation revealed that Robbie Wiggins shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself inside their home. Investigators found the gun near Robbie Wiggins' body.

Neighbors called 911 around 10:40 Monday morning to report gunshots heard in the 100 block of Holly Drive in Eden, ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor said.

Deputies responded to a house at 161 Holly Drive and found an adult female dead from a gunshot wound in the backyard. When they went into the house, they found an adult male dead.

The woman was identified as Irene Wiggins, 61. The man was identified as Robbie Wiggins, 65. Friends and family members began to arrive near the Wiggins home throughout the late morning and early afternoon.

Sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant for the home and have processed the crime scene.

“We’re interviewing family members and neighbors,” he said.
