Using a bicycle as a getaway vehicle, an alleged armed robber was apprehended quickly by the Springfield Police Department.
Springfield officers arrested Donta Green of Savannah last Thursday for the robbery of a convenience store.

According to Detective Bryan Burgess, Green entered the store last Wednesday morning about 9:50 a.m. and brandished a firearm, demanding the store clerk hand over all the store’s money to him.

“She gave him the money and he got on his bike and rode away,” Burgess said.

Springfield officers tracked Green to a residence, where he was staying with a female acquaintance. He was arrested without incident around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officers continue to investigate leads in the case and are searching for the weapon used in the incident.

“We’ve got more than enough evidence on him,” Burgess said.

Green remains in Effingham County Jail and bond has not been set. He has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.
