Thorne back in Effingham custody

A wanted escapee is back in custody in Effingham County after escaping from his jail cell in October. Jackie Thorne was apprehended in Jacksonville, Fla., last December after an encounter with Jacksonville sheriff’s deputies.

Thorne was facing multiple charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault, high jacking of a motor vehicle, fleeing and attempting to elude, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, theft by taking and obstruction.

Thorne has been charged with escapee and interference with government property.

 He has been booked in the Effingham County Jail and will be facing his previous charges as well as his new charges.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
