Effingham County has reached another benchmark in beginning work on phase 2A of Old Augusta Road.

County commissioners approved a right-of-way agreement and a contract with the state Department of Transportation for phase 2A, which will run from Chimney Road to Dasher’s Creek. The entire stretch of phase 2 is approximately four miles long, running from Chimney Road to Fort Howard Road just past the Georgia-Pacific Savannah River Mill.

Under the agreement, the state DOT will contribute funds for grading, drainage, paving and installation of a traffic signal at Highway 21 and Old Augusta Road.
