Effingham County Sheriff's Office to continue sex offender roundup

On Halloween, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office will conduct its annual roundup.

Each year, the Georgia Department of Community Supervision requires all sex offenders on probation or parole to report to the sheriff’s office on Halloween from 6-9 p.m.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has hosted the round-up for many years and believes it’s beneficial for many reasons; it keeps sex offenders from re-offending, it assures they will not be accused of wrongdoing and gives peace of mind to parents who have their kids out trick or treating.

Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie also assigns extra deputies to patrol in neighborhoods.

There are 125 sex offenders in Effingham County, Approximately 60 are on probation or parole.
