Effingham Lady Rebels sweep Stephenson

It was a clean sweep Wednesday afternoon for the Effingham County High School Lady Rebels softball team as they went on the road to Stone Mountain and swept the Stephenson Lady Jaguars in blowout fashion with a 13-0 win in the first game and a 15-0 win in the second game.

Effingham County 13, Stephenson 0

The Effingham County Lady Rebels collected 13 runs on nine hits to blank the Stephenson Lady Jaguars Wednesday 13-0.

Effingham County got on the board early as they scored one run in the first inning and followed that with two more runs in the second inning and four more in the third to take a 7-0 lead. In the fifth inning, the Lady Rebels pushed five more runs across the plate and held the Lady Jaguars scoreless to end the game at five innings.

Hayley Dickerson got the start for Effingham and went the distance in the run-rule shortened game, pitching five innings of work while striking out eight and walking none.

Leading the Lady Rebels at the plate was Cevana Wood with two hits and four RBIs. Taylor Morgan had two hits and Sydney Newberry and Gracie Whaley had two RBIs each.

Defensively, the Lady Rebels committed two errors while the Lady Jaguars committed nine.

Effingham County 15, Stephenson 0

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lady Rebels picked up right where they left off and blanked the Lady Jaguars again 15-0.

Effingham jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and needed just two more innings at the plate to finish off the Lady Jaguars in three innings. Effingham scored two runs in the second inning and exploded for seven runs in the third inning.

Getting the start on the mound for Effingham was H Rewis, who threw three innings of work while striking out three and walking none.

At the plate, Sydney Newberry and Gracie Whaley each had three hits with B Wilson getting two hits. Whaley, Taylor Morgan and Cevana Wood drove in two RBIs each.

With the two wins, the Lady Rebels will play again against Creekview High School.
