SPRINGFIELD - Expert cancer care is coming to Effingham County.

Effingham Health System is integrating the excellence of Savannah-based Summit Cancer Care in the new Cancer Care Center at Effingham Health System.

Together they will offer medical oncology, including chemotherapy administration, and hematology services. The Cancer Care Center opened yesterday.

The licensed Cancer Care Center is operated by Effingham Health System. It will include a specialized chemotherapy pharmacy and a dedicated treatment facility.

Each patient will receive personalized care from one of Summit Cancer Care’s board-certified medical oncologists.

Summit’s physicians have earned respect throughout Southeast Georgia for the caliber of care, progressive treatment options, and genuine compassion they offer every patient.

“Now our local cancer patients can receive expert medical oncology care right here, close to home,” explains Fran Baker-Witt, CEO for EHS. “The tremendous amount of time saved traveling for treatment will make it easier for them—and their families—to focus on healing.”

Kris Tillman, CEO/CFO for Summit Cancer Care agrees, “Our goal is not only to cure our patients, but to wholly support them in their journey to healing.”

The Cancer Care Center is located within Effingham Hospital (459 GA Hwy 119 S) but has a dedicated entrance off West First Street.

The new space is designed to make treatment as comfortable as possible.

A covered awning and accessible parking make the experience easier for those undergoing treatment. In addition to expert medical care, Mrs. Baker-Witt and Ms. Tillman both emphasize their staff’s focus on delivering that care with compassion.

Area residents, who have been diagnosed with cancer, and their families, are invited to arrange a tour of the Cancer Care Center at Effingham Health System by calling 912-754-2560.
