There will be a planned power outage today on Rahn Station Road between Highway 21 and McCall Road, Georgia Power officials said.

Stan Sparks, area manager with Georgia Power, said the planned outage will affect 79 customers.

“If the customer is to be effected we are communicating with those customers via mailings and/or phone messages,” Sparks said. “The outage is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. and last up to eight hours.”

He said there will be more scheduled outages in other locations in the Rincon area as improvements are made to the system.

“It is for some system improvements we are making to help us serve the long term needs of the community better,” Sparks said.

The improvements will upgrade the distribution system from 13 kV to 25 kV.

“It’s improving our capacity and ability to serve additional growth in the community going forward,” Sparks added.

Sparks said as the dates for other outages are determined customers who will be affected will be notified prior to the scheduled outage.

He said if weather prevents the upgrades from being made today, the outage will happen on Wednesday.
