Dr. Franklin Goldwire waves to the crowd during Monday’s Dr. MLK Observance Day Parade in Springfield. Goldwire, the grand marshal, is a lifelong Effingham County resident who was the first principal of South Effingham High School. He is also a former member of the Guyton City Council and sits on numerous boards. Seated next to him is Dr. Cheryl Goldwire, his wife. The couple is riding in a vintage Pontiac owned and driven by Roger Scott.
