Local author shares book with LEAP students
Bumblebee

LEAP Youth Development Program encouraged the love of literacy through an author visit from Lashone L. Grimes, author of Bumblebees on the Run for students in its after-school programs.

LEAP is a program that prides itself on finding unique, engaging and exciting opportunities to meet the needs and enhance the learning experience of their students. Blending learning engagement with fun opportunities is one of the core values of LEAP Youth Development Program.

Grimes is a locally based author. Her Bumblebees on the Run encourages children to identify key site words and read aloud.

During the author visit, Grimes read to students, shared the importance of reading and literacy, and encouraged discussion to facilitate comprehension of the book's subject matter. Students were introduced to bumblebees and their many characteristic.. In addition, she brought honey to show students as well as informational cards that had a variety of interesting bee facts! Students were engaged in learning and fun. Students and staff had a wonderful time listening to Bumblebees on the Run and learning about these amazing creatures while spreading the love of literacy.

LEAP Program owner Jamie Wells said, “This was an excellent opportunity for students to learn and reinforced the importance literacy has in their lives. I am happy that students were able to have this experience and also see that goals can be accomplished through perseverance and determination.”

LEAP is a solid educationally based program that provides a structured learning environment, academic enrichment and engaging recreational opportunities for youth. Designed as a platform that addresses the unique needs of elementary age children, LEAP provides a well-rounded after-school care program at Guyton Elementary, Marlow Elementary, Rincon Elementary and Sandhill elementary schools
